Christmas letter preamble 2008
Never one to pass up a chance to work the keyboard, here’s the preamble to our first-annual Christmas letter… I added it after reading this and deciding that a little humour would be nice.
Hi everyone,
One of my goals this year was to implement Toyota’s vaunted “just-in-time” philosophy across the spectrum of my activities. That, and reduce our carbon footprint.
On the latter front, we weren’t particularly successful. In the end, “Santa” bought us 10 tonnes of carbon offsets through the good people at www.offsetters.ca.
(Click here if any of you feel like buying offsets for anyone in time for Orthodox Christmas.)
Combining the just-in-time and reduction-of-carbon-footprint initiatives, I woke up every morning at 8:34 a.m. and stumbled into work after a cold shower. Well, that’s not true — I skipped the shower entirely. Actually, that’s not true either; I was woken up seven days a week at 5:50 a.m. by an insistent cat, and so took refuge in looooong hot showers, secure in the knowledge that the hydrophobic creature wouldn’t try to scratch me while the water was running.

Also combining the two above-mentioned initiatives, we wrote a Christmas letter this year. And while Aya dutifully sent hers out early today, I waited until the last 120 minutes or so of Christmas Day to send mine out.
Hope you’re all enjoying your holidays, and the upcoming Year of the Ox is a “bull market” for your financial, familial, friend-related, and other alliterative affairs.
